Event details

1. Proceeds from the 14^th Annual Murrells Inlet Soup Off benefit the Shriner’s Hospital for Children
2. There are 3 categories: Beef/Pork/Chicken, Seafood and Vegetable
3. First soup entry is $20. Second soup entry is $10. Third soup entry is free
4. Vendor spot is $25. If you are a Food Vendor, you must enter a Soup
5. Each soup entry must be at least 15 gallons
6. Soup samples of 3oz are given out for each ticket
7. Tickets are sold in the Retail store for $2 each
8. SBB will provide cups and spoons
9. Teams will provide their own napkins/paper towels
10. Serving starts at 11:00am. Judging will start 1:30pm. Tickets collected at 4:00pm. Awards will take place at 5:00pm

Setup rules

1. Each spot is a 10’x10’
2. Last year’s winners get first choice of their spot back
3. Spots are given out when your entry fee is paid
4. Setup can begin at 7:00am the day of the event
5. Certain spots have power but you must provide your own extension cord
6. You may have a personal cooler for drinks but alcoholic beverages are prohibited
7. Decoration of your spot area and signage with Soup name is recommended

Cooking rules

1. Gas or Electric cookers will be the only acceptable forms of cooking
2. You must bring a Thermometer and Hand Washing Station
3. All cooking pots must have lids
4. You must keep your cooking and prep area clean to meet DHEC standards
5. Soups must be prepared and cooked on-site with the following exceptions:
   1. Soaking of Beans
   2. Preparation of Stock which is defined as liquid broth
   3. Vegetables can be precut

Judging rules

1. This is a Soup contest and not a Stew contest i.e. Bog or Gumbo
2. Generally, a spoon should not be able to stand up in a bowl of Soup
3. Judges have the final discretion but if you think it’s close to a Stew, it probably is
4. Category winners are determined by blind judging and walk around judges
5. Blind judges will judge soups on taste, consistency and by category
6. Walk around judges will judge soups on taste as well as overall team presentation
7. Category judging will be based on a 3-2-1 vote system
8. People’s Choice winners are determined by which team gets the most tickets
9. Winners will receive trophies, cash prizes and other gifts

Awards

• 1^st place receives $200, engraved cooking pot and all the glory
• 2^nd place receives $100 and trophy
• 3^rd place receives $50 and trophy
• These are for all categories
