Event details
- Proceeds from the 14th Annual Murrells Inlet Soup Off benefit the Shriner’s Hospital for Children
- There are 3 categories: Beef/Pork/Chicken, Seafood and Vegetable
- First soup entry is $20. Second soup entry is $10. Third soup entry is free
- Vendor spot is $25. If you are a Food Vendor, you must enter a Soup
- Each soup entry must be at least 15 gallons
- Soup samples of 3oz are given out for each ticket
- Tickets are sold in the Retail store for $2 each
- SBB will provide cups and spoons
- Teams will provide their own napkins/paper towels
- Serving starts at 11:00am. Judging will start 1:30pm. Tickets collected at 4:00pm. Awards will take place at 5:00pm
Setup rules
- Each spot is a 10’x10’
- Last year’s winners get first choice of their spot back
- Spots are given out when your entry fee is paid
- Setup can begin at 7:00am the day of the event
- Certain spots have power but you must provide your own extension cord
- You may have a personal cooler for drinks but alcoholic beverages are prohibited
- Decoration of your spot area and signage with Soup name is recommended
Cooking rules
- Gas or Electric cookers will be the only acceptable forms of cooking
- You must bring a Thermometer and Hand Washing Station
- All cooking pots must have lids
- You must keep your cooking and prep area clean to meet DHEC standards
- Soups must be prepared and cooked on-site with the following exceptions:
- Soaking of Beans
- Preparation of Stock which is defined as liquid broth
- Vegetables can be precut
Judging rules
- This is a Soup contest and not a Stew contest i.e. Bog or Gumbo
- Generally, a spoon should not be able to stand up in a bowl of Soup
- Judges have the final discretion but if you think it’s close to a Stew, it probably is
- Category winners are determined by blind judging and walk around judges
- Blind judges will judge soups on taste, consistency and by category
- Walk around judges will judge soups on taste as well as overall team presentation
- Category judging will be based on a 3-2-1 vote system
- People’s Choice winners are determined by which team gets the most tickets
- Winners will receive trophies, cash prizes and other gifts
Awards
- 1st place receives $200, engraved cooking pot and all the glory
- 2nd place receives $100 and trophy
- 3rd place receives $50 and trophy
